We here at Brickhouse are striving to produce the soundest dogs possible. We have started with genetically tested dogs from some of the finest breeders in the country.
I have been involved in the sport of purebred dogs for over 25 years. I got my start as a breeder and exhibitor of dogs in the early 1980's with Labrador Retrievers. I have since bred and shown,Whippets, Shelties and now Boston Terriers.
When we decided to breed and show Bostons I made it a point to find out all I could about the health issues involved. We took the time to locate breeders who did the health testing required to produce the healthiest dogs possible.
A long time ago a wise old breeder gave me this analogy and it is my standard for breeding to this day.
Breeding dogs is like trying to build a three legged stool. The first leg is Type, which means the dog should look like the breed standard describes it to be. The second leg is Soundness, which means breeding for a dog that is as healthy as possible in order to live a long happy life. The third leg is Temperament, which means the dog should have the perfect temperament to live as a family member. If any of these three legs on the stool is not in balance with the others, when you try to sit down you will fall on your butt.
I have always strived to fulfill this goal..
We do BAER, CERF and OFA patellas on all of our adults and BAER and CERF on every puppy we sell.
We believe our dogs should be happy family member first and showdogs secondly.
We at Brickhouse do not ship our babies as we feel it is important to meet our puppies new parents and for the puppy's transition to their new home to be as free from undue stress as possible.
